What We Carry
Memories do not stay as they once were. Some images of my childhood and my mother remain very clear, while others blur over time. Since becoming a mother myself, many of them have returned—sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes in a form that leaves me unsure how much is memory and how much has been reshaped over time.
In the painting, traces surface beneath a pale, almost gray layer and disappear again. The red trace remains. For me, it stands for something that does not depend on remembering every detail: love, gestures, closeness, and the ways a person has shaped us.
Maybe we carry much more than we can consciously remember. The past does not simply stay behind us. Parts of it change with us and reappear later in another form.
