Unraveling
During the first months after my son was born, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and the need to keep functioning shaped my days. Eventually I felt as though I was disappearing inside it all.
That weight is reflected in the dark, dense surface of the painting. A fine red trace is almost hidden. To me, it stands for love—for a connection that can remain even when one’s sense of self is barely there.
Unraveling is not only a work about motherhood. It touches a state many people know: periods when circumstances take up so much space that all we can do is function, and we lose sight of ourselves in the process.
