Emerging
Emerging began with my son’s energy—his intensity, his curiosity, and the speed with which feelings, thoughts, and reactions arise in him. I was not trying to depict him. I was more interested in becoming itself: something alive, moving, contradictory, and not yet fixed.
The natural-colored ground remains visible beneath the layers. Some areas are dense and rough, others open and soft. That openness matters to me. Not everything needs to be filled, smoothed out, or controlled.
For me, that idea reaches beyond this one relationship. Loving someone does not necessarily mean shaping them in a particular direction. Sometimes it means leaving enough room for them to become more fully themselves.
